Transformation Tuesday: A Big Move

Since July 1st, 2012, the Aggies have been apart of the Southeastern Conference. Since their transition into the SEC, the Aggie football team has been outstanding, increasing in recruiting rankings as well as national rankings. Most of all, who can forget Johnny Manziel winning the Heisman (as a freshman), the first year the Aggies competed in the SEC, a shock nobody expected. The improvement over the last three years has been simply amazing.

When the Aggies were in the Big 12, the Aggies won the conference title only once (1998, under R.C. Slocum). Not only did the Aggies under-perform in their conference, in 16 years, the Aggies went 2-9 (.182) in bowl games with wins in 2001 against TCU and 2011 against Northwestern. With these pitiful stats, the Aggies also only finished in the AP rankings for 4 times, reaching the 11th overall ranking. Records weren’t fond of the Aggies while in the Big 12, but that would not be the story in the SEC.

In the SEC, the Aggies have competed for the conference title and have been in the running for 2 straight years, almost reaching it in 2012 after defeating Alabama in Tuscaloosa. While the Aggies have only endured 2 years in the SEC, they have won their only bowl game, looking for a second bowl victory against Duke in the Chick-Fil-a Bowl. As well, the records have been consistently broken and as better talent is recruited, I’m sure this will continue. Landing great players such as Johnny Manziel, Mike Evans, Luke Joeckle, and many many others, the Aggies have been outstanding since their transformation to the SEC.
