As many others were, last night I turned on the final BCS National Championship Game between the Florida State Seminoles and the Auburn Tigers. The game was fun to watch as both teams traded haymakers till the final whistle. While many were watching the game on ESPN or “Title Talk” on ESPN2 which had two former Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks (Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel), I had my tv turned to ESPNnews for the “Megacast”.
Megacast featured ESPN college football analysts Chris Speilman and Matt Millen and three coaches from the college football ranks which included our very own coach Kevin Sumlin. They watched the game for the most part from the All-22 angle which is how many scouts and teams watch film on their favorite players. As a football junkie who covers the NFL Draft it would be my dream set up. The only thing that could have been better would have been an endzone angle.
Sumlin and the others involved were giving insight on the game. For instance how Auburn was calling out cadence on a false start for the Seminoles. Many of the casual fans wouldn’t have caught that. They did all agree that the long TV timeouts halted some of the Seminoles “momentum”. For the first time, I believe that ESPN had a great idea. Kevin Sumlin did the Aggies proud with his input and football knowledge and I look forward to more instances of the Megacast.
