After two heartbreaking losses in Houston, the Texas A&M Baseball team bounced back with a midweek sweep of UT-Rio Grande Valley.

Texas A&M Baseball spent the weekend with some elite competition in Houston, coming home with a 1-2 record. On Tuesday, the Maroon and White were back on the diamond ready to take on the Vaqueros of UTRGV with hopes of getting back in the win column. The Aggies took down the Vaqueros, 16-7 and 7-4, thanks to late offensive surges.

A Whole Lot of Pitching & A Whole Lot of Walking

Nine different pitchers took the mound for the Aggies during the two game set against the Vaqueros. Each pitched at least one total inning, facing at least three batters. While a few struggled with control, overall they did enough to keep the Aggies in the win column allowing a total of 11 runs between the two games.

The issue of walks continued to plague Aggie pitching throughout the weekend. The staff walked 15 total batters between the two games, many times issuing free passes to the lead-off hitter.

Tuesday

As expected, John Doxakis took the mound to start the first of the midweek set. He took the first 1.2 innings, giving up 4 runs including a game tying homer in the second. Only one of the four runs was considered earned.

Junior Lee May Gonzalez took the mound first in relief, his first outing since giving up the game winning hit vs. TCU on Saturday. He pitched 1.2 innings, giving up 1 hit and 1 run. Freshman Jason Ruffcorn took his place, pitching 1.1 innings with a very similar stat line.

Cason Sherrod took the mound as the third reliever, gaining the win in this contest. His first outing since the seemingly never ending walks against TCU on Saturday went well. Sherrod gave up only one hit and walked two in his inning and a third of work.

Freshman Tristian Bayless made his Aggie debut Tuesday night, pitching the final three innings and earning the save. He allowed one hit and one run in his three innings of work. We will surely see him again sometime soon.
