Texas A&M Softball Goes Undefeated on Opening Weekend
By Shelbie Warr
Sunday, Texas A&M vs Lamar
Another close game awaited the Aggies on Sunday afternoon vs the Lamar Cardinals. Junior Trinity Harrington started at pitcher for the Aggies, earning the win after a 4 hit and 2 run performance. Samantha Show earned the save on Sunday, pitching the 7th inning to seal the win for the Aggies allowing only a leadoff walk.
Last season, Harrington finished with a 7-9 record with a 3.89 ERA, including four complete games and a win in the Aggies upset win over then No.1 Florida.
Kelli Milligan, another member of the 2016 All-SEC Freshman squad, opened the scoring for the Aggies in the first working a walk, stealing second, and then coming around to score after a ground out by Kaitlyn Alderink and a fielding error that allowed Tori Vidales to reach base.
Lamar put up a run in the top of the second to tie the game and the Aggies responded with 2 of their own in the home half of the third after an Alderink single scored both Milligan and Fortenberry. Both singled and subsequently stole a base to put themselves in scoring position.
The Aggies held the lead through the rest of the game, despite an early error allowing an unearned run score in the top of the 6th.
This win capped off an unbeaten surge through the Aggie Classic for the ladies in Maroon and White.
