Overall

In a game overshadowed by a coaching change, the Aggies started fast, cooled down and then regained some momentum before the half. The Aggies took the lead heading into the fourth, but ultimately could not hold the lead and would lose 55-52.

In earlier posts during the year, I asked for the coaching staff to take more risks. Did you see any risks being taken against Wake Forest? I did not, I thought the bowl game was about unloading the chamber and not playing conservatively.

I looked back at the game and wish we had the two third-and-ones back. The first was early in the third down 38-35 and the Wake 49. Kellen Mond played quarterback and the play went for minus two. The other was third-and-goal at the one early in the fourth. Where’s the Tom Brady go quick and quarterback sneak the thing? Sometimes you have to let your quarterback just go. Being in the shotgun at the one is crazy.

Overall, the game was a wild one and it started a chain reaction of crazy things that happened to Aggie Athletics over the weekend.

Grade: C+

Let’s welcome Jimbo Fisher to Aggieland. He’s being paid a bunch of money so the heat will be on him very quickly. The staff is yet to be finalized so look for that to happen before the recruiting dead period ends in the middle of January. From then until signing day, recruiting will be the focus and once that’s over, spring ball will be here before you know it.

The 2017 Aggies probably played in the two most entertaining games of the year in college football. While that’s fun for most, it’s not fun for me. Hopefully Fisher and crew can right the ship and get us back in the conversation.

The 2018 season will be fun with Clemson and Alabama on the schedule before September ends. Keep it locked with the Gig’em Gazette for more stories as the coaching staff and recruiting class gets finalized.
