Tyrel Dodson

One of Texas A&M’s most versatile defenders is Tyrel Dodson, and he will be asked to lead this defense in 2018 after the departure of Armani Watts.

The former 4-star linebacker from Tennessee exploded onto the scene as a sophomore in 2017. He finished with 104 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and three interceptions. He was a Swiss army knife for the defense and doesn’t have many weaknesses, if any. He’s a smaller linebacker, but the way teams are playing these days that isn’t as much a handicap as it used to be.

Mike Elko, Texas A&M’s new defensive coordinator, mostly runs a 4-2-5 scheme, but Dodson is so versatile he could be one of the “five” defensive backs with Otara Alaka (more on him later) and Buddy Johnson or Anthony Hines on the field next to him. Elko also likes to mix up his looks and Dodson gives him a ton of flexibility to play basically anywhere on the field.

Dodson will definitely be one of the best overall players on the defense this season, and will also be the guy who jumps off the screen the most. He just flat out makes plays.
