Texas A&M football: 5 reason Aggies get first SEC road win at South Carolina
By Jeff Shull
South Carolina is turnover prone
The Aggies have struggled in this area in their first three conference games, but thankfully South Carolina has been worse. The Gamecocks have 10 turnovers in five games while Texas A&M has nine in six games.
You saw first hand in Texas A&M’s last two games how turnovers and mistakes can keep a score closer than it should be. Kellen Mond threw two interceptions on the plus side of the field against Arkansas, one in the red zone, and they missed two field goals. Getting nothing from these scoring opportunities gave Arkansas a chance to tie the game late.
Kellen Mond had two more turnovers against Kentucky, one on the plus side of the field and another that was returned for a touchdown, and Seth Small missed a 40-yard field goal. Taking away points and giving Kentucky points forced the game to go into overtime. Thankfully, Kentucky returned the favor by missing their field goal attempt in OT.
Bentley tossed five interceptions combined against Georgia and Kentucky. Elko needs to figure out a way to force turnovers, as the Aggies have been dormant in this department this season. South Carolina is the team to start that against.
