Texas A&M football: Grading the 2019 recruiting class signings
By Jeff Shull
Quarterback
Pro-style quarterback: 3-star Zach Calzada
We had some drama leading into the beginning of the early signing period as Georgia made a late push for local kid Zach Calzada after 2018 No. 2 overall recruit Justin Fields announced his intention to transfer. Jimbo Fisher locked in on Calzada early and believes him to be a special talent.
Calzada is a high school All American and might be one of the more underrated prospects in this class. He held offers from Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, and UCLA among others. He will be the first Aggie quarterback to get a full career learning under Fisher, so expectations will be high, maybe unfairly so.
Position Grade: B+
Running Back
All-Purpose back: 4- star Isaiah Spiller
Spiller is an A&M legacy whose father, Fred, played at Texas A&M. He is a top 200 prospect and could find his way into the mix as a return specialist or third down back in 2019, assuming Trayveon Williams leaves for the NFL. Fisher showed some favoritism towards Joshua Corbin over some more experienced backs, so it’s clear he wants his guys.
Position Grade: A-
