Texas A&M football: Jace Sternberger beefs up, has interest from several teams

Jace Sternberger was one of the best tight ends in Texas A&M football history in just one season; he has several NFL teams interested

Texas A&M football had its Pro Day today, and with as many as eight players likely to be drafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, it’s no surprise there were scouts from pretty much every team in attendance.

One of those likely to be drafted (read: definitely will be drafted) is Jace Sternberger. The sensational tight end had a world wind season, and has apparently had an even more hectic offseason since declaring himself for the 2019 NFL Draft. He could be the first Aggie taken in the draft this year.

Sternberger led the Aggies in catches, yards, receiving touchdowns and yards per catch. He was a consensus First Team All American. The only thing keeping him from being a sure-first first round pick is the underwhelming NFL Combine numbers he put up and he still has work to do as a blocker.

However, he will definitely be drafted early, so it was no surprise to hear Jace talk about he has workouts with several teams heading into the NFL Draft. He has already worked out with Arizona and has Cincinnati next. He had dinner with the Saints and will meet with the Raiders on Wednesday. He also said he has visits every day from April 1 through the 17th. He has a workout with the Cowboys next week.

He also mentioned he’s put on 12 pounds of muscle since the season ended, tipping the scales at 253 at the Pro Day weigh in. That’s good news for teams hoping to see him improve as a blocker. He was always willing to throw his body around as a blocker, and now he’ll be able to withstand that punishment and become a more complete tight end than he already was.

Whoever drafts Jace Sternberger will get a very talented player.
