Texas A&M Football: Breaking down Kellen Mond’s NFL QB comparisons
Former Texas A&M Football star Kellen Mond has drawn comparisons to Colin Kaepernick
Kellen Mond has drawn a handful of comparisons thus far, but one of the more memorable ones had been to former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Unfortunately, Kaepernick will likely be remembered for everything in his career that didn’t relate to football, but he was a solid NFL QB1 for a while.
This comparison has been made by a handful of experts, but most notably, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein drew a line between these players on NFL Network’s “Total Access.” He would go on to talk about both of their abilities to effectively move on zone reads.
A bold comparison, but there may be some legs to it. Get it, like a dual-threat quarterback? Sorry.
To be honest, the comparison of these two players isn’t too far from the truth. While Mond would like to have a longer career in the league, he won’t necessarily complain about having his game compared to Kaepernick.
Specifically, both of these guys are dual-threat quarterbacks who prefer to stay in the pocket. They’ve got size and can bomb the ball deep, but each of them struggles to find consistency on a night-to-night basis. Plus, each of these players was a four-year starter.
In terms of the eye test, this one works. Mond looks like a spitting image of Kaepernick when he was in college.
