The Texas A&M Football team had one of their best seasons in recent memory in 2020, finishing as a top-five team in the country with an Orange Bowl win under their belts.

But among the team’s success as a whole in 2020, there weren’t many players who could be considered among the best in the country. The team had standout performers like Kellen Mond, Isaiah Spiller, and Buddy Johnson, but the team’s strength was working together and earning wins the old-fashioned way.

That said, the 2021 roster has the potential to be even better. The difference? This time, there may be a few headlining stars on the roster.

Texas A&M Football DE DeMarvin Leal is among the best returning players in the SEC

It’s no secret that DeMarvin Leal has as much potential as any player on this team. Coming out of high school, he was a 5-star prospect who was set to be one of the most impactful freshmen in the country.

Injuries would slow him down, but he would fill into the starting role by the time his freshman season came to an end. In 2021, he could be more than just a starter.

The SEC had a lot of turnover in 2020, even in a season that granted players an extra year of eligibility. Once again, the conference had more players drafted than any other conference in college football, cementing itself as the most talented league.

That said, a door will open up for returning players to become more well-known in the coming season. Specifically, DeMarvin Leal could really get his name on the map with a good season in 2021. Leal has already been a strong player, but with the departures that we’ve seen, he could become one of the best.

247Sports recently listed Leal as a top ten returning player in the SEC. Other players on the list? Derek Stingley, JT Daniels, Matt Corral, Christian Harris, etc. Leal is in elite company, and right now, he ranks as the 6th-best returning player in the conference with a chance to sneak into top-5 draft pick talks.

He’ll have to take a big step forward to fill these expectations, but if there’s a guy who can do it, it’s Leal.
