Texas A&M vs Kentucky Prediction Tonight
At 15-2 and undefeated at home, the Aggies have been impressive this season. Yet despite their sparkling record, the Aggies have been middling against the spread (ATS), coming in at 7-8-1. Their biggest test of the season comes against a Kentucky squad that dominated a stout Tennessee team 107-79 in their last matchup.
A&M struggled against the bottom-dwellers of the SEC, failing to cover against both Missouri and Georgia. I fear their struggles will be exacerbated against a Wildcats team that has legitimate National Championship aspirations. Let’s dig into the matchup.
Kentucky has one of the premier offenses in the country, ranking amongst the nation’s best in offensive efficiency, 2-point shooting, 3-point shooting, offensive rebounding rate and turnover prevention. As a result, Texas A&M will need to score to keep up or this one could get out of hand quickly.
The Aggies have a solid if unspectacular offense, ranking 91st nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency per Bart Torvik. They do have the ability to catch fire, though, and have the 35th best 3-point percentage in the country. If they can keep this game close, it will be because they drain 3’s and take advantage of an off-night from the Wildcats’ offense.
However, Kentucky has a MASSIVE rebounding advantage that will give them enough second-chance opportunities to put the game away. The Wildcats are #1 in offensive rebounding rate while A&M is an abysmal 269th in defensive rebounding rate.
Even if Kentucky has a poor shooting night, they should be able to take advantage of A&M’s rebounding deficiencies to give themselves enough chances to cover. I predict that even if A&M shoots well early, Kentucky will pull away in the second half behind their rebounding advantage and am making Kentucky -7.5 my best bet tonight.
