Texas A&M Football: 5 potential breakout candidates for 2022
2. LB Edgerrin Cooper
This next player I am very excited to watch next season, that being Edgerrin Cooper. Cooper was a former top-200 high school player and is in line to start on the weak side in 2022.
The Louisiana product redshirted in 2020 before playing nearly 340 snaps in 2021. He had a rough start last season, but quickly found his footing around Week 7. Up to Week 7, Cooper was struggling bringing ball-carriers down, missing seven tackles in that span. For the rest of the season however, he only missed one tackle.
He had found his groove at this point and was playing like one of the better defenders on the team. He was applying pressure on the quarterback from time to time and was a force in the run defense.
He is showing a lot of good things in camp and is impressing new defensive coordinator D.J Durkin. Cooper has another level to his game that he hasn’t quite reached yet, and with a productive year in his resume, he is primed for a breakout season in 2022.
