Texas A&M Football: 3 reasons the Aggies will upset the Miami Hurricanes
A new QB1 in town
As reported by several outlets, Max Johnson will be trotting out with the 1’s in place of Haynes King once game time rolls around. Now, I’ve been on record as saying that King was not the reason the Ags lost the last game, but he certainly didn’t help A&M with some missed reads and off-target throws.
Now, despite what many Aggie fans remember about Max Johnson (given the one play that’s been burned in all our minds from the end of the LSU game), pushing the ball deep is much less his strong suit. Clark Brooks details Johnson’s strengths and weaknesses as a passer in this article, discussing how he excels with quick reads and shorter passes.
These strengths will serve to be a balm for the complaints of many Aggie fans following an eminently uneven offensive performance thus far. Consistency on the offensive front has been severely lacking thus far, and it is this consistency that will provide A&M a much better opportunity to win games. It was consistency offensively that made the 2020 Orange Bowl Champion Aggie team so effective, and with Johnson at the helm, the Ags look to return to form in that arena— albeit with more explosive plays as well.
