Arkansas football offense preview

The Hogs offense is led by none other than quarterback K.J Jefferson. In last year’s matchup, Jefferson only attempted 15 passes, and even completed just under half of them (7), but he limited turnovers and threw for two touchdowns.

The bread-and-butter of this Arkansas offense so far is the run game. The Razorbacks are currently 10th in the FBS in total rushing yards while gaining about five yards per attempt. Arkansas gets a ton of production out of its running backs and quarterback, as Jefferson also has 169 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on the season, while RB1 Raheim Sanders has logged 440 rushing yards on 6.7 yards per carry.

Towering wideout Matt Landers currently headlines the receiving group for Arkansas. The 6’5 pass-catcher leads the team in receptions and receiving yards with 14 and 211 respectively. This group has a lot of height—Jadon Hazelwood (6’3) has 158 yards and Trey Knox (6’5) has 110. Sanders also makes his presence known as a receiver out of the backfield, registering 117 yards through the air as well.

The offensive line has been solid to start the season. Jefferson has been sacked just four times in three games, however, he’s been pressured 27 times out of 90 dropbacks—30% of the time. In terms of run blocking, this team gets a good amount of push for its running backs, while also remaining disciplined, as they’ve had no penalties against them yet this year.

To wrap it up, Arkansas has a fairly balanced offense with more of a lean on rushing. What will make them tricky is that they have a mobile quarterback with lengthy receivers, meaning if he has to extend the play and throw it into coverage, they can go up and get it.
