Texas A&M Football: 3 Under-the-Radar Candidates to Replace Jimbo Fisher
Could Texas A&M football look to the west in their coaching search?
Jedd Fisch, current head coach of the Arizona Wildcats, is an interesting name to me. He has veritably resurrected the program in Tuscon, which is no small feat, getting the Wildcats into the CFP rankings. After a 1-11 first year in the desert, the Wildcats are currently 7-3 and 5-2 in conference.
Fisch has a lot of potential as a head coaching hire. He obviously has experience, in contrast to Hartline. He’s been in coaching longer, and has spent a lot of time in the NFL, with the Texans, Ravens, Broncos, Seahawks, and Jaguars. Some concerns might be things like how his experience might scale to the bigger stage he would be dealing with in the SEC, a lack of connections currently in the conference (his last SEC experience was as a GA at Florida in 1999-2000), and ability to recruit.
Fisch would be one of the cheaper hires the Aggies could get as well, which is something that has to be mentioned after paying that huge buyout to Jimbo Fisher. This is an intriguing one to me, and one that I think Aggie fans should keep in the back of their minds. It wouldn’t be a splash by any means, but it has a lot of potential. Whether he has national championship potential, though, is another question.
