Five worst placements in On3's top 25: Texas at 1st
Alright. Here's the controversy.
If you've followed college football at all over the past two years, you're probably already sick of hearing about Arch Manning, he of the famous QB bloodline. His dad, who you may know as "the funny one," never played in the NFL thanks to an injury, but that did not stop him from bringing forth a five-star, perfect-rated QB recruit as a son.
Of course, Texas's last perfect-rated QB recruit is the guy they're all but ready to run out of town on a rail. He's also the guy that Arch was unable to beat out for the job, despite immense fan pressure to see no. 16 trot out onto the field every single game.
So tempering the Manning hype is one thing. But it should not be undersold that the Longhorns lose most of their offensive and defensive lines, a Thorpe award winner at CB, a starting safety and LB, and their top three players in receiving yards.
That's a lot of production to go without. There's optimism about the young talent among a lot of fans, but that doesn't immediately take. It would be foolish to dismiss the possibility that this is a rebuilding year for the Longhorns and that they fall well short of double-digit wins. In that vein, preseason no. 1 is far too high a ranking.
