Power ranking the SEC after week 9: #4 - Tennessee

The Volunteers had a bye week this week to rest and recover after a physical, hard-fought win over Alabama. Home games against Kentucky and Mississippi State precede the game of the year for Vol fans when they venture down to Athens.

The winner of that one will probably have the inside track to the SEC championship, depending on what UGA does against Ole Miss the week prior. However, I don’t think you can beat Georgia if you’re intending upon winning solely with your defense; in other words, Iamaleava will have to step up.

Much like Ole Miss, this is not a squad I foresaw discussing as being deficient on offense and high-quality on defense before the year began. But that’s where we are Heupel’s squad. Is it enough to get them to the playoff? We’ll have to see.
