Could this year be the year that the Texas A&M Baseball team makes it back to Omaha after being thwarted by TCU in back to back Super Regional appearances?

The Aggies finished the 2016 regular season campaign as the nation’s top ranked team according to D1 Baseball. After coming close to a College World Series berth they fell to ninth in the final rankings.

There will be plenty of time to break down all the matchups ahead. For now let’s take a 10,000 foot view of the season that lies ahead of us. Who’s ready for some Olsen Magic?

Non-Conference Slate

The Aggies open up the season again with a northern team visiting Blue Bell Park. The three game series against Bowling Green kicks off Friday, February 17th at 6:30 PM. The Aggies will play a couple of smaller in state schools in February: Stephen F Austin and Incarnate Word. Between those two games the good guys welcome Pepperdine to College Station on the home rotation of their annual series.

The big event prior to conference season beginning in mid-March is the Shriner’s College Classic at Minute Maid Park. The Aggies draw includes games against Texas Tech, TCU, and Baylor. Those games are going to be huge with conference season looming. The Horned Frogs might be the Aggies biggest out of conference rival at this point. That Saturday night game on March 4th will be an excellent barometer of how good the 2017 Aggie team is going to be.

The Aggies will also host Rice, Dallas Baptist, Sam Houston State and others in other midweek games this year. Bar none, the highlight will be a March 14th Tuesday night contest against the Texas Longhorns. When the two rivals met last year, this happened:

SEC Play

Last year the Aggies were swept by Florida on the road in early April. That was the only conference series they lost in 2016, including road series at South Carolina and Mississippi State. They then proceeded to win the SEC tournament, beating Florida in the process.

This season the Aggies will host series against Kentucky, Auburn, Tennessee, and Mississippi State. They end the year at home against Arkansas before heading to the SEC tournament in Hoover, Alabama.

Away series in conference include trips to Vanderbilt, LSU, Alabama, Missouri, and Ole Miss. Those trips will be tough, but every weekend in the SEC pits some of the nation’s best teams against each other. You can always catch the Aggies being streamed live on the SEC Network+ and these select games on ESPN networks.

The long offseason is almost over! Olsen Magic will be here before we know it. Gig’em Aggies!
