In spite of dropping their first game of the 2017 season, Texas A&M baseball won their second weekend series of the year against a tough Pepperdine team.

After a clean sweep of Bowling Green on opening weekend, the Aggies topped SFA in a Tuesday night thriller. The Aggies trailed 5-0, but rallied to tie the game and force extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th inning the Aggies scored the game winning run on a wild pitch during an intentional walk attempt.

Every team needs Tuesday. Texas A&M trailed for just half an inning in the entirety of their opening series. If they have Omaha aspirations the team is going to have to find ways to win close games.

Will the victory come via a wild pitch in extra innings very often? That’s doubtful. But there’s something important about having “been there before”. The Aggies have plenty of close games on the horizon, and that included a few with the Pepperdine Waves over the weekend.

Texas A&M blasted Bowling Green, outscoring the Falcons 50-8. The Aggies only edged the Waves by six runs, 14-8. They suffered their first loss of the season, but they won the series. That’s what matters most down the road.

Hitter of the Weekend: Braden Shewmake 7-for-13, 2 2B, HR, 4 RBI
