2017 NFL Combine 101: Explanation of Events, Schedule, and Streaming Links
Day One
The first day players arrive, they go through basic registration tasks. They have a preliminary physical, get oriented, and settle in for the next few days. Player interviews will take place starting from day one, but those will pick up more so in the next few days.
Day Two
On Day Two the Combine really begins. Prospects get measured, and these numbers are what the scouts and GMs will go on for the week and for the draft. Those numbers viewers see on their screens at the Draft all happen here. There are more medical exams, looking for any issues the player may have been trying to hide from teams, and more interviews. There isn’t as much going on that is televised yet, that starts on Day Three.
Day Three
On the third day, prospects go through psycological testing (the Wonderlic), they meet with the player’s union (NFLPA) to learn their rights and responsibilities, talk to the media about their experiences, and have their first real workout for scouts, the bench press. Teams are also interviewing teams throughout this day, and into the fourth.
Day Four
The fourth day is the one that most people see on television. This is when prospects participate in their on field workouts. Everyone does the 40 yard dash, agility drills such as the 3 cone drill, and the shuttle run.
Quarterbacks will throw, DBs will run a ball tracking drill of their own, WRs will catch and run routes, and everyone is trying their best to make an impact on the people watching to help their draft stock. After their workouts (and a shower, I’d imagine), they leave Indianapolis and go home.
That’s the schedule. Now let’s take a look at those events in greater detail. Plus, we’ve even got a Wonderlic test for you to practice.
