A day after smashing Texas Tech 9-0, the Texas A&M baseball team lost a weird, exhausting game to No. 1 TCU, dropping their record to 1-1 at the Shriners Classic.

This game got off to a picture perfect start. Nick Lodolo, who had a rough start to his last outing against Arizona State, struggled in the first inning against the Aggies. The seniors took advantage of the rattled young pitcher.

Nick Choruby drew a full count walk and scored when’s Evan Skoug overthrew first base on a pick off. Then Walker Pennington went deep, depositing a ball into the Crawford Boxes of Minute Maid Park. Five batters in and the Aggies had a four run advantage.

Austin Homan hit a rocket to the mound which ricocheted off of Lodolo’s ankle. Blake Kopetsky would score and that was the end of the line for the freshman pitcher. Lodolo was a first round selection in last year’s MLB draft, but after the first half inning he’d been sent to the showers. Texas A&M lead the number one team in the nation 5-0.

Stephen Kolek stepped onto the mound amped up. With a five run lead he pumped the strike zone, going toe-to-toe with Horned Frog slugger Luken Baker. Baker won the first battle, singling into right field to score the first TCU run. The second Kolek-Baker duel proved even more intriguing. With two on in the third and one out, Kolek struck Baker out swinging. Hunter Coleman jumped up and gunned down Austen Wade attempting to steal third and the inning was over.
