Johnny Manziel will always draw media attention, but there have been several Aggies in the NFL making waves early in 2017.

NFL Playoffs

There were plenty of Aggies that made appearances as the NFL season winded down. Three of them played in the NFL Pro Bowl, with Michael Bennett earning a starting role. Then the big game rolled around. Two Aggies from Houston made the trip back to the Bayou City with the hopes of winning a Super Bowl ring.

In the week leading up to the game, I couldn’t help but see some similarities between the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide and the New England Patriots. Super Bowl 51 and the College Football Playoff National Championship Game had a lot in common. Then the game started. When the dust settled, Martellus Bennett was a Super Bowl champion.

Perhaps the best part was baby Von Miller staring in one of the better ads of the Super Bowl.

NFL Draft

In what has become an annual tradition of sorts, Aggie fans have began the countdown to the NFL draft. Barring unforeseen circumstances, Myles Garrett is expected to be the number on overall pick. In typical, humble fashion Garrett released a statement indicating he was declaring for the NFL draft on New Year’s Eve, when folks were distracted ringing in the New Year.

Josh Reynolds, Justin Evans, and Daeshon Hall all figure to be first or second day picks. They are just three of the many Aggies who will find their way onto an NFL roster next season.

Then there was the decisions of Ricky Seals-Jones and Speedy Noil to forgo their senior season and enter the NFL draft. Prior to the combine, we took a look at some of the most prominent draft eligible Aggies and projected which round we expect each of them to be selected, prior to the combine. We’ll update that moving forward.

Johnny Manziel was recently seen at an autograph signing during Super Bowl week in Houston. He looks healthy and serious about getting back in football shape.
