Texas A&M Baseball: Evaluating the Lineup Before the Start of SEC Play
2016 Stats
Blake Kopetsky, unfortunately tore his rotator cuff during pregame practice on opening weekend in 2016. The surgery and subsequent rehab would cause him to miss the season.
2017 Stats
The senior outfielder has draw 16 starts in 18 games this season. After a rough start, Kopetsky has a .350/.435/.467 slash line in 60 at bats. He’s walked 7 times with 15 strikeouts. He has 3 triples and 2 doubles to his name as well as 6 RBI. Kopetsky has been successful in four of five stolen base tries.
How He Fits
Rob Childress is still searching for his leadoff hitter. In the Aggies’ last non-conference series finale he moved Nick Choruby back in the lineup and brought up Kopetsky to the one hole.
It’s going to take more than a game or two to really evaluate how this move will work out, but as far as Kopetsky’s season to this point it’s been a tale of two halves. During a 50 run offensive outburst on Opening Weekend he went 0-for-7.
That makes it all the more impressive that his average is over .300 headed into SEC play. If he can produce close to this level and walk a bit more often he’ll be a more than serviceable leadoff man.
