2016 Stats

In 45 starts and 177 at bats Nick Choruby posted a .294/.359/.333 slash line. He had 17 walks, 30 strikeouts, 7 doubles, and 22 RBI. He had 13 stolen bases on 15 attempts.

2017 Stats

Choruby has 17 starts and 66 at bats. He’s hitting .318/.458/.409 with 17 walks, 16 strikeouts, 3 doubles, 1 home run, and 8 RBI. He has 5 stolen bases on 7 attempts.

How He Fits

Choruby has seen his game continue to develop every year he’s been in Aggieland. In his early years he was almost exclusively a pinch runner, utilized for his speed. Although he picked up first career home run this year, he’s never been known as a power bat.

Most importantly, the Aggies don’t need him to hit 10 home runs this year. They need him to get on base. And he’s doing a decent job. Choruby leads the team in walks (17), but he also has 16 strikeouts. The Aggies have been able to take early leads on their opponents in large part because of his ability to get on base and run.

He’s going to be the offensive catalyst for this team down the stretch. If he can get on base he’ll help turn the lineup over and give some other guys in the A&M lineup a chance to pick up an RBI. That’s important in a 3-2 game and a 8-5 game.
