Game 3: Texas A&M beats Auburn 3-1

Howdy Stephen Kolek

If there was any doubt about Texas A&M claiming this series, Stephen Kolek put that to rest. Kolek pitched an absolute gem, going a career high 8 innings while allowing 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 7. After the game, Kolek spoke about a special source of motivation,

"“My dad is going through cancer right now so I figured if he can handle chemo I can handle a little bit of pressure on the mound. I had a point to prove today. Had to get back out there and see what I could do.”"

What I found most impressive by Kolek’s performance, was that he forced Auburn to go three up three down in four out of his eight innings. Mitchell Kilkenny slammed the door shut in the 9th inning, earning his 4th save of the year and 2nd of the weekend.

Texas A&M also out-hit Auburn 10-6 in the series finale. Freshman Braden Shewmake led the way, going 2-4 with 2 RBI singles in the 1st and the 5th. Shewmake now has 37 RBI’s on the year, which leads all Aggies. Walker Pennington scored Hunter Coleman with an RBI single in the 6th.
