Texas A&M football has found a new voice that will echo over the loud crowds at Kyle Field this upcoming season and into the future.

Texas A&M football has a new voice. Chace Murphy, the former PA announcer, gave his resignation in January leaving the door open for a new man in the booth at Kyle Field. Today, Mike Wright of KBTX was named to the position.

Murphy might have been most known for his third down calls. After a second down stop his booming voice would ring out over the Texas A&M defense with the call, “it’s thiiiiiiiiiiird down.” Wright will presumably bring his own flair to the broadcast booth, and that’s a good thing.

Wright is the fourth full-time voice of Kyle Field. He’s filled in at Kyle previously and most recently worked the maroon and white spring game.

In an interview with KBTX, Wright spoke about his excitement to join the broadcast team:

"“I think since I was a kid you talk about broadcasting … but certainly to have the opportunity to be a part of history at Kyle Field, gosh that’s pretty special because Kyle is not exactly a place that throughout the world isn’t widely respected as perhaps one of the greatest venues of college football. It’s still a bit surreal, but I’m certainly honored at excited at the opportunity.”"

Texas A&M begins their season on the road against UCLA. Following that game the Aggies return to Texas for their hope opener against Nicholls State on September 9, 2017. That game will be Wright’s first official game.

Although it won’t be the same sounds over the speakers, the true spirit of Aggie football will continue on. The torch has been passed, and now we wait for the season to start. BTHO UCLA.
