Why SEC Expansion with Oklahoma Makes Sense

The SEC is the biggest and most profitable conference in collegiate athletics. Any school that joins the fold will divide that pie further. If they don’t bring in more than the average SEC school the net profitability of the conference would go down. Oklahoma would bring in the cash.

Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma football team are perennial among the top 10 and the Sooner brand is nearly nation wide. If Oklahoma joined the SEC they would most likely bring Oklahoma State, but that isn’t necessary a lock. The SEC has the leverage and the money and if anyone could convince the Sooners to break away from the Cowboys it would be the SEC.

Likelihood of Happening

50 percent. Whether they bring Oklahoma State with them or not, Oklahoma has to have at least 50:50 odds of moving to the SEC. They have a big name and they’re an expansion to the geographic footprint of the conference. Win-win.
