9. Clemson (ACC)

Why SEC Expansion with Clemson Makes Sense

Any time you can add a National Championship winning program to the fold you make it happen. That was true of Florida State and it’s true of the Tigers. The South Carolina Gamecocks don’t have the clout of the Florida Gators, so perhaps a second program in the state of South Carolina could be forgiven.

Clemson would only intensify the deep south culture of the SEC. They’re one of the non-SEC teams that has a certain SEC swagger about them. No longer would the state be shared between the SEC and the ACC, instead the SEC would dominate yet another state.

Likelihood of Happening

17 percent. Four Tigers (Auburn, Missouri, LSU, and Clemson)? Okay, so maybe mascot wouldn’t be a deal breaker, but it’s still hard to imagine. The ACC isn’t going to lose a program than won a national championship this recently and there isn’t much that the SEC could offer that the Tigers don’t already have.
