Speedy Noil

The No. 1 wide receiver in the class of 2014, Speedy Noil couldn’t seem to stay out of trouble long enough to make an impact on the field. Noil’s Texas A&M career was riddled with suspensions, off field issues, and unfilled expectations.

A week before Texas A&M’s bowl game against Kansas State, Noil was arrested for marijuana possession and suspended. That appeared to be the last straw. Kevin Sumlin never explicitly stated that Noil was no longer welcome at the Texas A&M program, but Noil’s decision to declare for the draft shortly after made it pretty clear he had worn out his welcome. Rather than face another suspension or perhaps worse, Noil announced he was headed to the NFL.

Noil Makes Headlines at the Combine

Noil was just one more name on a list of draft eligible players until the NFL Combine when this happened:

The only other wide receiver to leap that high since 2006 was current Kansas City Chief pass catcher Chris Conley, who posted a 45 inch vertical. That one jump put Noil on the map. The talent is there with Noil, and sometimes that’s enough to earn a late round pick.

As far as things stand today, Noil isn’t likely to be playing every Sunday next season. However, if there’s a fringe prospect that is able to fight his way onto a team as a return man or fifth wide receiver, it very well might be him.
