Texas A&M Softball: Aggies sweep regional, advance to Super Regionals
By Shelbie Warr
Texas A&M Softball swept the College Station Regional with ease. They will head to Knoxville this weekend for a Super Regional series with Tennessee.
The College Station Regional was a fun one, at the very least for Aggie fans. The ladies in Maroon and White swept their way through the regional, outscoring opponents 20-2. Thanks to strong pitching performances and timely hitting, the Aggies head to Super Regionals.
Let’s take a look at the weekend’s highlights.
Friday vs. Texas Southern
Junior Lexi Smith took to the circle on Friday against the Lady Tigers and was dominant. She allowed only two hits, walked two and struck out nine in the 5 inning run-rule victory. Smith is now 12-1 on the season with an ERA of 1.57 after the shutout.
Of course, it is easier to pitch when your team works nine walks and 11 hits to score 14 runs in five innings. The Aggie offense put their late season struggles behind them and swung some hot bats on Friday night.
The Aggies took an early lead and never let up. After two walks and an error, third baseman Riley Sartain took a ball deep to right center, doubling in all three runners with two outs in the inning.
The ladies did not stop there either. In the bottom the third, the Aggies put up 8 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks to push the game out of reach for the Tigers. The inning was highlighted by a double by Samantha Show and a triple from Erica Russell.

Just for good measure, shortstop Kristen Cuyos added three more in the home half of the fourth on a homer down the left field line to really drive the nail in the coffin. All in all, it was a successful night for the Aggie offense and for Lexi Smith in the circle.
