Tough losses and even bigger wins

Of course, in a league like the SEC, not everyone gets to be the big dog. Texas dropped their final two conference series and was quickly eliminated from the SEC tournament with a 10-inning loss to Alabama. However, the fight that this ball club showed in the postseason was impressive despite that demoralizing loss.

The Aggies hosted a regional, and in true fashion, they swept it. The final of that regional was one of several high points of the season: a 3-1 win over Texas (that did not get blown like other 3-1 leads). That particular game had me higher strung than most football games because A&M teams have been known to embarrass themselves on a stage like that, and playing their biggest rival, no less. I waited for the other shoe to drop that afternoon, but it never did. God bless you, Samantha Show and Tori Vidales.

That next weekend was an even higher point. As satisfying as it was to not lose a shot at a super regional to Texas, the Aggies managed to make it a step further and advance to their first Women’s College World Series since 2008. They did that by beating Tennessee on their own turf.

The Volunteers were one of the two that bested the Aggies in SEC play during the regular season. The first game was rough, an 8-1 trouncing. Their resilient nature was on full display in Game 2. Texas A&M rallied from behind to take that contest 6-5 and force a deciding Game 3. They came from behind in that one too, winning 5-3. It was pretty incredible, but the most incredible thing was the backstory of the whole postseason.
