SEC Media Days: Kevin Sumlin audio and full transcript
James Crepea, Al.com– “You were active in recruiting Jarett Stitham, twice. What was your impression of him as a quarterback, and how do you think he’s going to alter Auburn’s offense, an offense that’s struggled to throw the deep ball, especially against you guys?”
"Sumlin – “Jarett is a very very talented player and I really hope- I cut you off at the end because I heard you say ‘against you guys’- I hope he doesn’t throw the deep ball against us, but he’s a very talented young man. He’s a guy, in high school I thought he was as good as there was, we had to make some decisions in recruiting in our place and we made those decisions and he’s gonna be successful. It’s just a matter of when, and what time. He brings a lot to the table, he’s a guy who can move around a little bit, and a guy who is highly accurate and can throw it. I wish him the best of luck and wish him success. But I didn’t like the way you said ‘you guys’ at the end, but that’s okay.”"
I can’t remember the last time Auburn had a quarterback this hyped up (it was two years ago). It seems like there are lots of people out there willing to give him the Jeremy Johnson award for preseason hype at the QB spot.
If Stidham gets going, Auburn can be dangerous. But he has a major step at Clemson first, before he is anointed anything. We also know that the away team has won every time this game has been played. But these types of things come to an end, and I think Kevin Sumlin is confident in his ability to put the brakes on the Gus Bus.
