Texas A&M Athletics has made a good amount of money in the SEC, but major championships are still lacking. What’s the cost of moderate success?

Texas A&M Athletic Director Scott Woodward made waves earlier this summer when he put Kevin Sumlin on notice. There wasn’t going to be any more subpar seasons for Texas A&M Football. If the Aggies do  stumble on the gridiron again, it will be Sumlin who will see the door.

It’s not unreasonable for Woodward to demand success. Kevin Sumlin makes a good amount of money. They don’t pay him to lose. But Sumlin isn’t the only man in the athletic department that’s getting a big check. In fact, it’s Woodward himself that has the highest base salary among all 14 athletic directors in the SEC.

When you add up all the other miscellaneous pieces that make up each athletic director’s total compensation package Woodward is actually only the six highest paid AD in the conference. He comes in behind John Currie, Jeff Long, Scott Stricklin, Greg Byrne and Mitch Barnhart.

At this point the fanbase doesn’t care where the staff ranks on the salary lists. They want to see wins. Scott Woodward was hired because he’s supposed to be able to build winning teams across the board. Whether or not Sumlin will be a part of that success remains to be seen, but the fans want to see wins, now.
