What if the Lone Star Showdown was played today? Who would win? What would happen? And when will Texas A&M football and the Longhorns play each other again?

Tell me about the good ole days…

The weather was cold but Aggie spirits were colder on that Thanksgiving evening in 2011. I can still picture Case McCoy scrambling up the middle of the field to put the Texas Longhorns inside Justin Tucker’s field goal range. Hearts were crushed all throughout Aggieland but what hurt the most was knowing that the chance for revenge would not be possible. At least not for a while.

Recently, there has been some talk about renewing the Lone Star Rivalry that got the state of Texas so excited every year. Longhorn coach Tom Herman expressed that he approves of the idea. Even the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott wants the game back.

As a fan of college football, I know I would enjoy it. I was there in 2011 and I’ll never forget it. The excitement and anticipation that had been building up all week were incredible. I’m from the Austin area where most of the population are obviously tu fans. Myself being an Aggie, was poked at and always got in disputes about who was going to take the W each year.

Those Longhorn fans were die hard, railing against the Aggies every year. And we reciprocated the feelings right back to them. I miss it so much.
