1. Officiating is a problem

Everyone complains about officiating. That’s part of being a sports fan. By its very nature officiating is an inexact and imperfect science. The referees are human beings that are going to make mistakes. Nevertheless, the number of checks and precautions that exist to aid officials in the modern sports landscape are meant to bridge the gap and make the correct call more attainable.

That did not happen for the Aggies against the Rebels on Saturday. In what could have been a momentum swinging moment the Aggies were stripped of seven points. This isn’t the first time this season that an incorrect whistle has taken points off the board for the team. Mistakes happen, but something needs to be done to get the call right.

In the first half with the game neck and neck Texas A&M forced a fumble, grabbed the loose ball, and sprinted to the endzone for a defensive score. Then the officials got involved. The ball carrier was ruled down on the field, erasing the potential touchdown. Upon review it was determined that the ball was indeed loose and the Aggies were awarded the possession, just not the points.

When everyone knows what should have happened and the rules prevent that from happening something needs to change.
