3. Buddy Johnson

Buddy Johnson is a player who has been a bit off of my radar this season. That changed after Week 13 versus LSU. He had the best game of his young career.

Much of the spotlight this season has been on the Texas A&M linebacker unit. Alaka, Dodson, Hines, and Gillaspia have all earned at least one helmet sticker this season. Johnson joins them as the fifth linebacker to receive the prestigious Gig’Em Gazette helmet sticker honors.

Johnson has been mostly a rotational player for the Aggies this season. However, you would never have known that had you just looked at his stats versus LSU.  He ended the night with nine total tackles, one sack and 1.5 tackles for loss. The sack was the first one of his career.

The freshman linebacker from Dallas had his breakout game against the Tigers and will be looking to build on it heading into the bowl game. With the emergence of young guys like Buddy Johnson, the Texas A&M linebacker unit seems to be in very good shape heading into next season.
