It’s been a crazy week for Texas A&M football fans and there hasn’t even been a game. Here’s a rough timeline of events around the Aggies’ coaching search.

In an ideal world Texas A&M would have had their new head coach lined up and ready to be announced immediately following the dismissal of Kevin Sumlin. The Aggies are dead-set on hiring Jimbo Fisher, but Florida State has one more game to play meaning he’s tied up until at least Saturday afternoon.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the events up to this point and a projection of what a potential hiring of Jimbo Fisher could look like in the days to come. We’ll keep this updated as the situation develops.

Sunday, Nov. 25

Kevin Sumlin was fired as the head coach of Texas A&M. That led to a plenty of speculation, but only one name ever percolated to the surface: Jimbo Fisher. The message in College Station was clear from the beginning: Jimbo Fisher or bust.

Monday, Nov. 26

It was announced that the Texas A&M Board of Regents would hold a special meeting on Thursday, Nov. 30 to discuss contract details for a new football coach. It looked like the Aggie faithful would have to wait until then to hear more news, but things continued to unfold in Tallahassee. Fisher to Texas A&M was still thought to be somewhat of a long shot.

Tuesday, Nov. 28

A Florida State player shared via a cryptic Instagram post that he wasn’t sure whether or not Fisher was going to stick around much longer. Reports began to surface that Fisher’s beef with FSU facilities might be enough to push him to College Station.

Wednesday, Nov. 29

Florida State begins their vetting process of Oregon head coach Willie Taggart as a potential replacement should Fisher decide to leave. Rumors of those in power at Florida State doubting Fisher will return began to appear. Fan discontent manifests itself during Fisher’s radio show on Wednesday evening. A fan is removed after asking Fisher whether or not he was still loyal to Florida State.

Thursday, Nov. 30

D-Day. The meeting to discuss a potential offer for (presumably) Jimbo Fisher takes place in College Station. Estimates from numbers floated out to the media have been anywhere from five to 10 years at $7.5 Million per year. Florida State is growing antsy. A potential announcement by Fisher could come be imminent. Things point heavily in favor of the Aggies.
