Texas A&M football ended 2017 on a sour note, but the future is still bright in Aggieland. Here are the five most memorable moments of another wild year.
Texas A&M football has it highs and lows. 2017 was no different. The regular season ended with a loss to LSU followed by a loss to Wake Forest in the Belk Bow. While those memories aren’t too rosey, there was plenty more of 2017 that Aggie fans will not soon forget.
Here are five of the most memorable moments of the 2017 Texas A&M football season.
5. Kicking the Gators out of the Swamp
Texas A&M had offensive issues in 2017. They had defensive issues in 2017. But special teams was, and has been, a strength of this team for several years. Christian Kirk routinely made plays on returns and the kicking game was as strong as its ever been. That was highlighted by a tremendous performance from placekicker Daniel LaCamera and punter Shane Tripucka against Florida in the Swamp.
The Aggies scored one touchdown against Florida, but still found a way to beat the Gators. The win was the first victory in the Swamp in Texas A&M history and it wouldn’t have been possible without excellent special teams play.
Kirk returned the final Florida punt of the game 39 yards, setting up the game winning field goal by LaCamera. It was LaCamera’s fourth field goal of the game and it gave Texas A&M a 19-17 lead. Instrumental in such a low scoring game was the leg of Tripucka, who helped a struggling offensive consistently flip the field. He punted eight times with a long of 55 yards which he did twice.
