Texas A&M Football: Remembering Johnny Manziel’s top 10 moments
4. Later, Sooners
The second game on this list against a former Big 12 opponent, the Oklahoma victory was cathartic to Aggies everywhere. A team that Texas A&M had seen very limited success against, in one of the biggest bowl games of the year, right after their quarterback was able to win the Heisman trophy, was a great setup to show just how far these Aggies had come.
In 2011, Oklahoma beat Texas A&M 41-25. In 2012, the two teams met up in the Cotton Bowl. I was originally going to miss this game, as I was working at a Boy Scout Winter Camp, but came down with the flu. If you don’t believe me, you’re not alone, my boss assumed I was “sick” to watch the game. My parents went, and didn’t invite me because I was going to be working. I watched the game on my couch at home. I have zero regrets.
Against a hated former Big 12 opponent, Johnny Manziel set records for total yards and the Aggies ran away with the game, winning 41-13. This play, the first touchdown of four that Johnny accounted for, was a tightrope job along the sideline which ended up in the endzone.
It set the tone for the rest of the game, where Texas A&M was clearly the better team on the field. What better way to show that Texas A&M made the right move by leaving the Big 12 than to curb stomp the Big 12 co-champion?
