Texas A&M Basketball: 3 Keys to victory over Providence in NCAA Tournament
3. Make your free throws
Even just the mention of the words “free throws” can make Aggies everywhere shiver in anguish. Not only have the Ags just had a bad free throw percentage in most big games this year, but there have been multiple cases in which a missed free throw or two cost the Aggies a chance at winning the game.
While the season percentage of free throws isn’t low (66.7), that number doesn’t do justice to the timing of missed free throws on the season. In most games against ranked opponents, the Ags could not make more than 70 percent of their free throws. Against Arizona and Kentucky, late free throws could have given A&M an opportunity that wouldn’t be there otherwise.
Next: Who are the Providence Friars?
On paper Texas A&M doesn’t have a free throw problem. But for any Aggie that has watched the games, we know thats far from the truth. If fouls can be drawn and free throws can be made, Texas A&M will have a much bigger chance at pulling out a victory against Providence.
