Front Court

The heart and soul of the Texas A&M team, Tyler Davis picked up his first point of the game on a free with 5:40 remaining in the first half. Davis made just two field goals before the break, but did significant damage on the boards, grabbing eight before half.

As the rest of the team went through their ups and downs, Davis stayed the course. He was dynamic on the boards, strong in the paint and relentless with his effort. The mental lapses that so frequently maligned his teammates never seemed to appear in his game.

FINAL STAT LINE: 6-of-10 from the field, 15 rebounds, 2 block, 1 turnover, 14 points

Robert Williams averaged 5.3 points and 6.0 rebounds over the Aggies’ last four games entering their tilt with the Friars. They needed a big game out of the potential NBA lottery pick and the results were mixed.

Providence struggled with Williams’ size on the inside, and he made his presence felt on the defensive end. He altered shots and forced Providence to make the extra pass more often than they wanted to.

As good as he was, there were stretched where he disappeared from the game entirely. He has the talent to take over a game from the interior, instead he was another pretty good, but not great asset on a team that needs his highlight reel plays. He delivered with a huge slam in the closing seconds that will find its way to SportsCenter soon enough.

FINAL STAT LINE: 6-for-9 from the field, 14 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers, 13 points

DJ Hogg is as streaky a shooter as they come. The Aggies supposed marksman missed both of his first two three-point attempts, one of which was airballed completely. Hogg missed his first four shots from the field and finished the game 1-of-4 from three.

To his credit, Hogg turned it on in the second half. After making his first three-point shot of the contest, Hogg picked up a pair of big blocks to help the Aggies extend their lead to eight points. Hogg finally played engaged, focused basketball, and the results were extremely positive.

FINAL STAT LINE: 1-for-6 from the field, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 blocks, 1 turnover, 5 points
