1. New England Patriots

After the Pro Day, it was widely reported that the New England Patriots had met with Manziel before and after his workout. This is on top of NFL Network’s Nate Burleson saying the Patriots should sign Johnny to be their third string quarterback or put him on the practice squad earlier this month.

I’m totally on board with this. You couldn’t pick a better head coach and quarterback duo to learn from than Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. While this hasn’t actually led to a quarterback moving on to bigger and better things (the jury is still out on the undefeated Jimmy Garappolo), it still looks good on paper.

Manziel needs structure and discipline. He’ll get plenty of that with the Patriots. New England is infamous for the “Patriot Way,” which is a nice way of saying “fall in line or Belichick will kick you to the curb in a heartbeat.”

Tom Brady is the established starter, and Belichick trading Jimmy G away is a dead giveaway that he plans to play a few more years, but Brian Hoyer is far from running away with the backup job. Manziel has a history of being Hoyer’s teammate. Competition there could do him some good.
