Texas A&M Football: 5 most intriguing storylines to watch for in Spring Game
By Jeff Shull
1. Quarterback play
I’ve talked about this a few times this spring already, but Jimbo Fisher’s biggest decision for the 2018 season will be his starting quarterback. You can say that about almost every coach every season, but there is more to it than just finding the best option.
Jimbo is inheriting Sumlin’s recruits and will be implementing an entirely different offensive system than the one Sumlin recruited for. You often hear people say a coach has to find “his guys” when they take over a program. Determining which of A&M’s talented quarterbacks can handle the offensive scheme switch is added pressure on Fisher.
So, more than your average spring game, all eyes will be on Nick Starkel and Kellen Mond. Both are talented quarterbacks with very different strengths, but both have the ability to win the starting job. As of now, it’s assumed the job is Starkel’s to lose. Mond might have something to say about that at the Maroon And White Game.
The game is expected to be played very much like a real game. These two guys might play well into the third and fourth quarter if that is the case. We should have a good idea who has command of the offense by the end.
