P Shane Tripucka

Shane Tripucka waited his turn behind 2016 NFL Draft pick Drew Kaser, who currently has a job in the NFL, and he did not disappoint in terms of accuracy. In fact, he set the school record for punts downed inside the 20-yard line with 27 in his first year in 2016. There will always be room for a directional punter in the NFL so long as Tom Coughlin is still alive and kicking.

Strengths: Obviously his biggest strength is accuracy. Opponents only had a total of 146 return yards in the entire 2017 season. This was largely due to the fact that opponents only returned 18 of his 83 punts. His punt average of 45.5 and net punt average of 41.8 were both top 10 marks in the country and he downed another 26 inside the 20 in 2017

Weaknesses: Although his numbers looked good in terms of average, he doesn’t have a huge leg like Kaser does.  He also was never asked to kickoff, so that part of his game won’t be available for NFL teams. There is a small chance someone falls in love with his ability to pin teams deep, which is such an underrated aspect of winning football games in the NFL.
