Game 2: Texas A&M defeats Tennessee 8-3 (Full Box)
Texas A&M jumped out to a fast start and evened the series Saturday night with an 8-3 victory over Tennessee. Racking up five runs on five in the first inning, the Aggies started strong as the top of the lineup continued to blast the ball all over the park.
Braden Shewmake and George Janca led Texas A&M each going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. The Aggies racked up eight unanswered runs through the sixth inning in a nice bounce back performance from Friday.
On the mound, John Doxakis picked up his seventh win of the year in seven strong innings of work. Giving up only four hits and striking out two, 60 out of Doxakis’s 107 pitches were strikes.
However, once again, the Aggie bullpen continues to struggle. Kaylor Chaffin took the ball in the eighth inning and only faced seven batters. In that span, Chaffin walked two, allowed two hits and two runs. The magical form from the 2017 season is still missing from Kaylor Chaffin’s game.
To start the ninth inning, Chandler Jozwiak struck out the first man he faced but then loaded the bases by hitting a batter and walking the next two. Nolan Hoffman was brought in to finish the game off and did so successfully but it had Aggie fans stressing over a game that was 8-0 going into the eigth.
