Linebacker – Tyrel Dodson

Dodson was a monster in 2017 and by most accounts could be the best player on the defense in 2018. He might have already been that in 2017 based on his stats, though it’s tough to argue against Armani Watts who became a third round NFL Draft pick.

Dodson had 104 tackles, 5.5 sacks and three interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. The undersized linebacker flies all over the field and jumps off the TV screen when you watch the Aggies.

It will be interesting to see how the transition to Mike Elko’s mostly 4-2-5 scheme changes how Dodson is used. Elko has emphasized in his past stops he doesn’t stick a specific scheme, but rather plays the matchups. Dodson is someone who probably won’t come off the field regardless, but the linebacker position is loaded with talent this season. Keep an eye on the rotation as the season plays on.
