Texas A&M Football: 5 reasons Kellen Mond could win starting QB job
By Jeff Shull
Battle tested
One thing Mond has is multiple tests under his belt as a true freshman. Yes, Starkel had tough starts in the 2017 season, but compare the two and you’ll see Mond had a much tougher go at it.
Mond came in the third quarter of the first game of the season at the Rose Bowl, then faced Arkansas, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida (on the road), Mississippi State (where he was benched in the second half) and then had some playing time against Auburn.
Starkel had the first half against UCLA, the second half against Mississippi State, most of the Auburn game, OIe Miss, LSU and Wake Forest.
Mond definitely played through the true meat of the schedule in 2017 and nothing should bother him in year two. You could say the same for both quarterbacks, to be honest, but Mond might be more equipped to handle adversity should (when) it arrive(s).
