Texas A&M football has one of their deepest rosters in recent memory, so they should do what they can to extend that depth by redshirting these players.
Reshirting players is a luxury used by college football coaches to extend the careers of their players when they are deep at certain positions, or if a player is raw and still needs to develop. Texas A&M football is entering a season where they are deep at just about every position, so Jimbo might look to use the redshirt on some talented recruits.
Guys like Grayson Reed, Tyree Johnson, and Camron Horry (son of Robert Horry, NBA champion) are just a couple of the recruits from the 2017 class who sat out a year and kept their four years of eligibility.
The Aggies are deep at all basically every position this season, save for maybe the offensive line. Even still, there are a ton of bodies even at that position that might allow Fisher to redshirt some from the 2018 class.
Most of the 3-star recruits from the class should be considered candidates for redshirting. It’s not often you see a recruit of that caliber come on strong to earn playing time in their true freshman season. They aren’t all Buddy Johnson.
So this list will focus on a few of the higher caliber recruits that might otherwise have seen the field if the team wasn’t so loaded with returning experience.
The future is bright with this Aggies squad under the tutelage of Jimbo Fisher. It could be even brighter if these players are given time to develop into the stars they are expected to be.
