Jimbo Fisher got SEC Media Days started for Texas A&M football; here are four takeaways from him and the players during the session.

Texas A&M football is less than two months away, and you can start to smell it in the air now that SEC Media Days have kicked off.

Jimbo Fisher was the first to follow SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and he spoke and answered questions for quite some time.

The former Florida State head coach is setting the bar incredibly high for his first season with Texas A&M, and he understands how much pressure has been put on him to succeed. However, one consistent message he has put out is that no one will put more pressure on the Aggies head coach than himself.

The expectations for this season are wide-ranging. From people thinking he can turn the Aggies into a contender immediately to people thinking he is overrated and will tumble under the heavy weight of his contract and the tough schedule, it’s hard to gauge which is more likely.

The reality is likely somewhere in the middle. There is already positive, tangible change. He has the Aggies ranked No. 2 in the 2019 recruiting class, they set a school record for Spring Game attendance, he changed the culture at practice and the players are responding positively to it.

But this is all meaningless unless it translates to wins. Fisher knows his contract has put pressure on him to get wins now, but also warns against those who expect him to move mountains in year one.

That leads us into the first takeaway from SEC Media Days.
